3월 16일부터 4월 4일까지 20일간 롯데갤러리 부산본점에서 「Imagination in daily life」라는 타이틀로 일상 속에서 꿈꾸는 공간을 느낄 수 있는 송승용 초대전을 개최합니다.
작가의 열정과 창조를 향한 예술혼을 만나볼 수 있는 이번 전시에 많은 관심 부탁 드립니다.
가구와 예술이 하나되는 공간
롯데갤러리 부산본점은 조형 예술과 디자인을 접목하여 한국적으로 재탄생 시킨 송승용의 아트 퍼니쳐
‘일상속 상상’ 展을 개최합니다. 1978년 부산에서 태어난 송승용 작가는 동아대학교에서 조각을 공부하고 프랑스 파리에서 디자인을 공부하였으며, 프랑스 스트라스부르 국립장식 미술학교 교환학생으로 공부하던 중 프랑스 랭스 국립학교에서 디자인(DNAP,학사,석사)을 거쳐 다양한 디자인 작업들을 접하게 되었습니다.
송승용의 작품은 매우 감각적이고 자연적입니다. 일반적인 생활 속에서 디자인을 발견하고 한국적인 형태들이 일상의 사물들과 만나 더욱 환상적인 느낌들을 표현합니다. 작가는 자연 그대로의 한국 전통미을 바탕으로, 실용성과 심미성을 동시에 충족시키는 자신만의 독특한 아이디어 작업들로 조선시대의 소박한 사랑방 가구들을 현대적으로 재해석하여 색다른 공간이미지를 연출합니다.
대도시 파리에서 혼자 살며 만든 둥지 안 추억과 가구의 기능들을 엮으며 일상 생활이나 개개인의 습관 속에서 디자인을 발견하며 제작된 다양한 시리즈의 작업들은, 자신의 예술관을 표현하는 독립적인 매체로 발전시키며 현대미술과 한국 전통의 색다른 결합을 선보입니다. 방 한켠의 좁은 공간 속에 놓여져 있는 책의 형태나 테이블, 조명, 의자 등의 모습을 모티브로 생활 공간 속 사물의 형식이나 필요한 쓰임에 따라 우리가 성장하며 생긴 고정관념들을 벗어나 사물에 대한 발상의 전환으로 다양한 상상을 유도합니다.
복쉬(Boksh), 오브제(OBJET), Rong, 사랑방(SALANGBANG), 다미(Dami) 외 현재까지 다양한 시리즈를 제작하고 있으며 이것들은 자연과 일상에서 영감을 받아 창조된 것 들입니다. 그의 특별한 예술 세계는 시공간을 초월한 일상 속 상상의 세계를 각각의 오브제들로 삶을 지탱하는 꿈의 모양들을 시각화 하여 표현한 것입니다. 이러한 작업들은 현실이라는 속박에 매여 자유롭지 못한 현대인의 욕망이자 꿈이기도 합니다.
<작품 설명>
OBJET-O
어릴 적 집안 어딘가에 소굴을 만든 기억이 있다. 테이블 밑, 장롱 안, 다락방에서 나만의 기지를 만들며 존재하지도 않는 적들을 피한 듯 안도감을 느끼곤 했다. 그때의 안락한 그리고 보호된 나만의 은밀한 공간, 거대한 저택보다 새둥지 같은 그 아늑함이 우리가 꿈꾸는 원초적 공간이 아닐까?

'Dami'(다미)라는 이름은 '담다' 라는 동사에서 유래한다.
시각적 아름다움뿐만 아니라 가볍고 튼튼한 내구성의 한국 전통 창살의 구조는 다양한 형상의 재현을
가능하게 하고, 더불어 '담다' 라는 기능 외에 각각의 크기와 형태에 따라 또 다른 쓰임새를 연상케 한다.

대륙을 횡단하고 초원을 누비는 유목민의 삶을 동경한다. 간단한 천막과 불을 지피면 그곳은 곧 그들의 안식처가 된다. 나는 어두운 집안에서 그들의 흉내를 내본다. Rong의 긴 전기선은 나를 집안의 노마드로 만들어 주기에 충분하다. 거실, 안방, 서재, 주방... 못가는 곳이 없다. 집안 곳곳이 나만의 공간이 된다.

애견샾 쇼윈도의 강아지들은 주인을 만나면 자신만의 고유한 이름과 특별한 의미를 가진 존재로 다시 태어난다. Boksh는 사용자에 따라 조명이 될 수도, 협탁이 될 수도, 선반이 될 수도, 혹은 또 다른 무언가가 될 수 있다.
사물들의 잠재된 가능성들을 모색하여 인간과의 소통을 갈구하는 송승용 작품전이 모든 이에게 꿈꾸는 공간이 되길 기대하며, 끊임없이 도전하는 작가의 열정과 창조를 향한 예술혼을 만나볼 수 있는 기회가 될 것입니다.
작가노트
‘나는 책상 앞 의자에 앉아 주변을 돌아본다. 책상 위에는 어지럽게 널려있는 펜들과 연습장, 컴퓨터 모니터, 그리고 다 식은 커피가 담긴 조그마한 잔이 놓여져 있고 수십 권의 책과 이런저런 잡동사니를 받치고 있는 선반이 방 한구석을 채우고 있다. 세상에는 헤아릴 수 없는 수많은 사물들이 존재하고 각각 그들 고유의 이름만으로도 대부분 비슷한 형상으로 머릿속에 그려진다. 사물 각각의 기능과 형태에 따른 그들의 신분은 아마도 너무 오래 전부터 규정되어 있어 변화와 진화를 거부하는 듯 하다. 수학의 함수처럼 이름값에 따라 기능 값을 찾아야만 하는 강박 관념이 나의 상상력을 억압한다.
아무것도 모르는 어린아이에게 의자는 놀이기구가 될 수도 테이블이 될 수도 사다리가 될 수도 또한 그 무엇으로도 가능해진다. 이제 의자는 의자로써의 의무에 벗어나 자유가 된다. 하지만 사물 기능의 전환은 사용자의 따라 변하지만 그 본질은 변하지 않는다. 그것은 사물 자체의 해방이 아닌 기능의 해방일 뿐이다. 사물 본질의 독립은 주체가 사물과 인간이 함께 되어야 하고, 그것은 곧 사람과 사물 사이에 또 다른 특별한 상호관계를 성립시킨다.
나는 우리를 둘러싸고 있는 모든 사물들의 잠재된 가능성들을 모색한다. 이것은 형상과 기능의 체계에 관한 연구가 아닌 사물과 인간과의 소통을 끌어낼 수 있는 방법론적인 연구의 과정들이다. ‘
